Shelbi
Thomas plans to work for a magazine as a reporter, editor,
or page designer, or attend graduate school after graduation.
She is an undergraduate research assistant, studying sports
stories that appear outside of newspapers’ sports
sections. Thomas is also newsletter editor and Web site
designer for the UI Society of Professional Journalists.
Thomas
attended the Fund for American Studies’ Institute
on Political Journalism last summer in Washington, DC. She
took classes at Georgetown University, attended lectures
from government officials and journalists, and worked as
an intern for The World & I magazine. Her work
has appeared in The World & I, Iowa Alumni Magazine,
and The Daily Iowan, where she worked as a metro
reporter her freshman year.
In
the past, Thomas has also been copy editor and designer
for earthwords literary magazine, assistant librarian
for the UI Journalism Resource Center, and editor-in-chief
of her high school newspaper.
